A woman plays the tenor saxophone, eyes closed, completely absorbed in her sound. From the bell of the instrument, butterflies rise into the air, as if her music is reshaping the space around her.
Her suit and hat are cut from wax-print offcuts collected from a tailor's shop, scraps once destined for the fire, now given new life as the garment she performs in. Her skin and the saxophone are built from fractured, mosaic-like strokes of colour, a deliberate, patient process that reflects the labour and time women endure in their journey toward empowerment. The gold treble clef draws on Akan colour meaning, signalling prosperity and worth.
Here, she takes the solo. The stage is hers.
